Personal branding is the process of defining and promoting what you stand for as an individual. Your personal brand is a culmination of the experiences, skills and values that differentiate you.

How would you describe your personal brand? Do you include your personal values? Your professional skills? Well, you don’t have to choose, your personal brand is what makes you, you; it represents what you stand for and shows others what you believe in, what you’re good at, and what makes you different from others.

Ways you can embrace and promote your personal brand

  • Be consistent on your public social media channels. Both personal and professional contacts will see your social profiles. This is why it’s important to have a consistent voice that highlights the things that mean something to you, like causes, interests, and hobbies. Though, for the profiles that are public where anyone can view them, be sure to keep things appropriate for your professional contacts. This doesn’t mean that you have to hide parts of your personality or things you believe in, however.
  • Don’t hide what makes you unique. Do you have a hobby that you love? Is there a cause that’s near and dear to you? Let others know about them. Who knows? You could introduce them to a new idea or interest.
  • Be your genuine, authentic self. You don’t have to rewrite your personality or skillset to fit in or to stand out. People want to see who you are and what you bring to the table. Focus on yourself and your accomplishments, you have so much to be proud of!

There are a few things that can make it difficult to find and embrace your personal brand, such as imposter syndrome. However, having a good personal and professional support system can go far in reassuring yourself of your capabilities.
